Flint River Paddlers

Group Description:

The “Flint River Paddlers” is a group of paddle sport enthusiasts from the Flint, Michigan area who share a common goal of paddling and conservation on the Flint River. The group will work closely with the Flint River Watershed Coalition to help promote river conservation, stewardship and the recreational aspects and opportunities present in the Flint River Watershed.

Group Activities:

· The club paddles canoes, rafts and kayaks, on everything from easy, calm rivers to more technical whitewater runs in Michigan and all parts of the country.
· The club will organize weekly group-paddling trips on the Flint River.
· The club will organize group-paddling trips around the state and country.
· The club will organize and lead a semi-annual "Paddle Pickup".
o A River Clean-up paddling trip down multiple sections of the Flint River. One time in the spring, and once in the fall.
· The club will promote river stewardship and awareness for the local paddle sport community.
· The club will promote and support river improvements and conservation projects through working directly with the other local river centered groups.
· The Club will help to promote the recreational value of the Flint River Watershed

Sample annual Calendar:

Business meetings will be planned for a quarterly rotation. Unscheduled business meetings when necessary can be called by any member of the group.

March – Weekly Flint River paddle trips begin when the weather is appropriate. Trips will be every Sunday starting at 1:00 PM. Trip put-in and take-out locations will be posted on the club web site no later than Thursday evening. Weekly Paddle trips will continue until the weather dictates that they stop.

Winter Months - I have been working with Swartz Creek Schhols to try and be able to use the Middle School pool either one or two Saturdays a month. If this works out we can have some "Open Sessions" for practice and group mentoring or we can try to bring in instructors for specific training classes. More to come on this once I hear back from the Swartz Creek School District.
